Innovative Stay-at-Home Solution: Modular Bungalow Case Study

Last summer, Rapid Relocate was tasked with sourcing temporary alternative accommodation for a couple whose bungalow had suffered fire damage. Initially, the couple was placed in a local hotel while our team searched for a suitable longer-term solution.

The Challenge

Finding a rental property that met the customers’ needs in terms of location, accessibility, size, and availability proved challenging. Despite an extensive search, we faced obstacles in securing a property that aligned with their requirements. Throughout the process, we maintained open communication with the couple, keeping them informed of our progress and the challenges encountered.

A Bespoke Solution

After exhausting all available rental options, we proposed an innovative alternative: a modular living solution installed on their own property. Both the policyholder and the loss adjuster were eager to explore this option. A site survey was conducted to confirm feasibility and determine the specific requirements needed to accommodate the couple’s needs.

The Outcome

On September 12th, a modular bungalow measuring 12m x 3m was installed on the couple’s driveway. The fully-equipped unit featured two bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, and bathroom, all tailored with accessibility features such as grab rails, a raised toilet seat, shower seat, and ramp access. This bespoke solution allowed the couple to remain close to their friends and family while overseeing the progress of their home repairs.

The customers have found the temporary bungalow comfortable and convenient, and they will continue to reside there until their home is fully restored. The loss adjuster praised the effort, stating, “Gold star to Rapid Relocate for this one!”

The Rise of Stay-at-Home Solutions

Temporary modular living units, along with stay-at-home solutions such as portable kitchens and bathrooms, are becoming increasingly popular. These alternatives provide cost-effective and convenient options compared to hotels and short-term lets. However, they are not without their challenges:

  • Space Limitations: Not all properties have the available space for modular units.
  • Amenities: Modular units may not provide the same level of comfort and amenities as hotels or fully furnished rentals.
  • Setup Time: Feasibility assessments and installation can take time, requiring customers to stay in temporary accommodation during the interim.

Conclusion

At Rapid Relocate, we understand that alternative accommodation is never a one-size-fits-all service. Our goal is to provide innovative, tailored solutions that best meet the needs of each customer, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum comfort during challenging times.
