In 1999 my family bought our first PC.

It was a momentous occasion – a defining moment in my life. I remember gazing in awe at the massive colour monitor, the slimline(!) design of the computer, and the whopping 5 gigabytes of storage it offered. To be honest, I had no idea what a gigabyte was back then, but it felt like a limitless expanse of data at my disposal.

The internet was another mind-blowing feature of that PC. Connecting to the World Wide Web took a minute, and it made all kinds of weird noises during the process. Whenever someone picked up the house phone, the internet connection would be unceremoniously disconnected. Nonetheless, browsing the web was a true novelty in those early days.

The possibilities seemed endless once I was online. All the information in the world was at my fingertips, and I could even download a song in a mere 30 minutes! My family embraced this new world of technology, and soon we were ordering school textbooks from Amazon, experiencing the convenience of home delivery. Little did I know that this was just the beginning of an incredible technological journey.

Over the past two decades, technology has advanced at an astonishing pace, becoming an integral part of our daily lives. The idea of a world without the internet is now inconceivable. My first computer’s specifications would be laughable compared to even the most basic smartphones today. This evolution in hardware epitomises the values that have driven change in the tech market: make it smaller, faster, better, and more robust.

We replaced our old, static, windows-based hotel booking applications with dynamic browser-based web applications, accessible from anywhere without the limitations of their predecessors.

Our attitude towards systems has evolved too. We no longer favour a one-size-fits-all approach; instead, we have dedicated technologies for each business unit, enabling customisation and functionality tailored to specific requirements.

Automation has played a crucial role in our systems, eliminating repetitive tasks and streamlining processes, while information security principles are now inherent in every application and system we manage.
